CHACHA CHOWDHURI


Chacha Chaudhary is a very popular Indian comic book character, created by cartoonist Pran.The comic comes in ten Indian languages including Hindi and English and has sold almost ten million copies. has also been made into a television series with Raghuvir Yadav playing .

Chacha Chaudhary was created in 1971 for the Hindi magazine Lotpot. It soon became popular among kids and the elderly alike.
According to a Diamond Comics press release the Indian kids in the age group 10–13 years ranked Chacha Chaudhary as their most recognizable comic book character.
has also been featured as a guest in other Diamond Comics series, with Billoo, Pinki and Lucky.

Chacha Chaudhary is a middle class Indian, frail but an extremely intelligent old man. The word chacha means paternal uncle in Hindi, while Chaudhary is a term used for big landlords or the most honorable, elderly or a respectable person in small villages or towns in India for various communities like Ror, jats, khatris, gujjars, ahirs, brahmins (in bengal and bihar regions).
Chacha Chaudhary's attire includes his red turban, a wooden stick, a waistcoat with a double inside pocket, and a pocket watch. His household consists of his wife Bini (Chachi), a faithful street dog called Rocket and a giant called Sabu. Chacha Chaudhary enjoys eating watermelon with relish, and takes off for a walk with Sabu and Rocket, whenever Chachi nags him.
Everybody in town knows that whenever goes out with his family, he never locks the door of his house but nobody could have been successful in robbing the house. Sometimes his head or nose itches when any trouble is going to happen.

SELINA HOSSAIN



Selina Hossain is one of the most important women writers of Bangladesh. She has published twenty-one novels, seven collections of short stories, four collections of prose writings and four collections of stories for children. Her works are a moving account of the contemporary social and political crises and conflicts as well as the recurrent cycles of the life of the struggling masses. Quite a few of her novels have been translated into Indian regional languages and into French, Russian and English. Commenting on the war of liberation in Bangladeshi novels, Kabir Chowdhury wrote that Selina Hosain's, Hangara, Nadi, Greneda (Shark, River and Grenade), "set in a remote riverine rural area of southern Bangladesh, dealing with illiterate common men and women, achieves a commendable integration of theme and style and brilliantly highlights the essence of all that is heroic, noble and glorious in our liberation war." Critic Syed Akram Hossain recalls Selina's Pokamakorera gharabasati and comments, "Her portrayal of life of a particular community living on the south-east coast of Bangladesh is informed by a deep awareness of life which transcends regionalism."
Hossain is the winner of Bangla Academy award, 1980 and Alaol Purashkar, 1981 among many others. In 1994-95 she won a Ford Foundation Fellowship for her novel, Gayatri Sandhya. Selina Hossain is currently serving in the position of Director of the Bangla Academy in Dhaka.

NASRIN JAHAN

Nasreen Jahan was born in 1966 in Mymensingh. Most of his early life she spent here. She started her literary life by writing rhymes and short stories in the children’s page of daily newspaper. She is married to poet Ashraf Ahmed and they have a daughter. Nasreen Jahan has known herself as a prominent writer in modern bangla literature. Her writing style is poetic. She loves to deal with psychological approach of human behaviour in her writings. Magic realism is often seen in her writings.In 1993 her novel Urukku was published, which was critically acclaimed and became a hit. for this novel she got Philips Literary Award in 1994. Now she has been working as the editor of the literature section of weekly Anyadin. Urukku, Chandrer Prothom Kola, Ure Jai Nishipokshi, Baidehi, Sonali Mukhosh,Jakhan Charpasher Batiqulo Nive Ashchhe, Andhare Rongin Rakhal are Nasreen Jahan’s well known works
