Contribution Sanjeev Chattopadhyay is best known and read for his witty and humorous fictions. During the 1970s and 1980s, he was the most widely read Bengali author. His style is easily recognized by his use of short satirical sentences mixed with frequent English words and very lively day to day language. His successful writings to document the lives and minds of middle class Calcutta families made him desired to the readers. He, through most of his stories and novels, challenges the moral values of the fast-changing Calcutta middle class. Chattopadhyay frequently uses old men as his protagonists. These aged characters create the spiritual and philosophical edge found in his memorable novels Lotakambala (The Baggage)and Shakha Prasakha (The Branches). His most famous story Swetapatharer Tebil (The Marble Top Table) is an example of his characteristic style of story-telling which mixes tension, dilemma, curiosity, pity, humor, and satire. He has also written fiction for children and continues to write for magazines and newspapers. A graduate in Chemistry, Sanjib, worked as a teacher at Ramkrishna Mission Schools before switching over to a government job. His excellence in writing took him to magazine journalism. He is now-a-days devoted more to spiritualism and has dedicated to study of saint Ramakrishna. Awards Ananda Puraskar, 1981
