CHITTARANJAN MAITY

See full size imageChittaranajan Maiti, a prolific writer for the last six decades, was born in a village in Medinipur district which was famous for its revolutionary fervent. He entered into the world of Bengali literature with his story published in the widely circulated and respected magazine for children, ‘Sishu Saathi’ when he was a school student. Later he was a professor of Bengali literature in a Kolkata college, and worked as a editor with several publishing houses. Chittaranjan Maiti is more known for his historical novels which counts more than two dozens. He has written about 60 romantic novels , 12 travelogue and three autobiographical novels. He has written several books for children including some famous pre-school books. Four of his novels have been made successful feature films by eminent directors. He ahs been translated into English and French languages

CHIRONJIB SEN

Chiranjib Sen is a professor in the economics and social sciences area at IIMB. He received his M.A and Ph.D. in Economics from Stanford University, M.A. in Economics from Delhi School of Economics, University of Delhi and B.A. (Hons.) in Economics from Presidency College, University of Calcutta.

Dr.Sen has held professional appointments in a number of leading institutions. He has been a Professor at the Centre for Development Studies, Trivandrum; Harry Reynolds International Visiting Professor at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, Visiting Scholar, Institute of International Development, Harvard University; and Visiting Processor, Dept. of Economics, Vassar College, New York, among others.

TARADAS BANDOPADYAYA

Son of late legendary writer Bibhutibhusan Bandyopadhyay of 'Pather Panchali' fame, Taradas (1947-2010)is survived by his wife and two sons.
He was a diabetic and suffered from chronic renal failure. A few years ago, he had undergone an open-heart surgery.
Taradas leaves behind a large number of short stories and two famous novels -- 'Taradas Tantrik' and 'Kajol'. 'Kajol' was a sequel to 'Aparajito' written by his father.

Taradas had his schooling at the Ramakrishna Mission School, Rahara. Graduating from Maulana Azad College with Honours in English, he went on to do his post-graduation from the Calcutta University.
He joined service with the West Bengal [ Images ] government and rose to the position of director in the Information and Cultural Affairs department, from where he took voluntary retirement.
Despite his failing health, Bandyopadhyay found time to associate with cultural and social organisations and remained the honorary vice-president of the Indian Forum of Art and Culture. 
He died at the age of 63.
