Anish Das Apu
Much of the praise for the art of translation in Bangladesh’s literature goes to Anish Das Apu. With his harmonious literary skills he has elevated this art to higher dimensions. He has born in 5th December 1969 at Barisal District. His father’s name is Late Lokkhi Kanto Das & mother’s name is Nihar Kanto Das. He completed his SSC & HSC from Barisal School & College. After that he completed his Hons. & Master’s from Dhaka University in International Relations. He started his writings since he studied in DU. He emerged in the field with the books ‘King Kong’, ‘Ripley’s Believe It Or Not’ and ‘ET’ in 1994. The same year he also came up with his translated novel ‘Dush-shopner Raat’ (Night of Nightmares), published by Sheba Prokashoni. That was only the beginning, since then he kept on presenting us with translations of books by famous authors like Sydney Sheldon, James Hadley, Wilber Smith and many more. He started his career in 1991 as a journalist in Weekly Monoroma. After that in 1994 he joined in fortnightly Tarokalok. Now he is working in an Advertisement firm.

Imdadul Haq Milon


Imdadul Haq Milon is a popular Bangladeshi novelist. He was born in Bikrampur, Munshiganj District in 1955. Milon graduated from Jagannath College. He went to Germany to rebuild life and after returning, wrote extraordinary work, ‘Poradhinota’. As a writer, Imdadul Haq Milon is very flexible. From classic stories, historical writings to very simple love stories, he is everywhere. His popularity is mainly for his love-stories. A huge number of his novels deal with human love between men and women in which he has demonstrated the topic in real like situation with a more practical diction and feeling. By his more than one hundred novels he has created himself as a legendary fictionist in the fiction writing world of Bangladesh. He has written more than 200 books. Desh Vager Por (After the division of the country), Kalo Ghora (The Black Horse), Jabojjibon (Lifelong), Nodi Upakhyan (The Story of River), Poradhinota (Subjugation), Rupnagor (A Place of Love), Noorjahan are his well known works. He has won several awards, including Echo Literary Award (1987), Bangla Academy Award (1992), Bijoy Padak (1994), Jai Jai Din Patrika Award (1995) etc.

Ahmed Sofa
Ahmed Sofa was born at Gachbaria in Chittagong district, Sofa’s career as a writer began in the 1960s. He never married. After receiving his secondary and higher secondary education in Chittagong, he studied at the University of Dhaka. Although he never paid much stress on formal education, he received his Master of Arts degree in political science; he later did research work towards a PhD, but was unable to earn the degree. Sofa started writing creatively in the 1960s, and wrote stories, novels, poems, essays, critical works, translations, juvenile literature, and compositions in other areas. He also edited many literary magazines. He is considered a successful writer of fiction and used his personal experience as the basis of his stories and novels.Sofa’s fictions were often based on his personal experience. He protested social injustice and tried to portray the hopes and dreams of common people through his writing. Sofa always handled his novels with meticulous thought and planning. The trend of telling mere stories in novels never attracted him; he always tried to innovate in both form and content. Surya Tumi Sathi (The Sun the Companion) was Sofa’s first novel. Onkar (The Om), Surya Tumi Sathi,Alat Chakra, Aali Kenan, Pushpa Briksha Ebong Bihanga Puran are his well known writting. On 28 July 2001, Ahmed Sofa died in a hospital in Dhaka. He was laid to rest in Mirpur Shaheed Buddhijibi (“Martyred Intellectuals’ Graveyard”).
